You rise Leadership through leveling up and treasure. You have up to 5 stacks of units on the battlefield, stack limit is limited by your Leadership. Additionally every game has some sort of gimmick using Rage resource - Crossworlds has dragon pet using special skills like moving enemies around the battlefield or spawning temporary units and so on. Beyond that you have magic used for buffs, debuffs, healing, some relatively tame damage - that sort of thing. Absolutely every unit has some special abilities. It's turn-based tactics in all its glory. And then you fight.Ĭombat is the meat of the game. Quests are simple and rarely have any complexity to them but that's part of the charm: the whole world is farcical and tries to be similar to Terry Pratchett or something like that. Most of your troops and artifacts you buy for gold and unlike most RPGs gold never becomes useless. You can snatch treasures while avoiding guards - which is all but required for smooth progress. Overworld map is realtime and is filled with treasures, buildings, quests and enemies. You still manage gold and some other crystals but it's all about a single hero travelling through goofy fantasy world, gathering armies and artifacts. They are Heroes of Might and Magic games without strategic part. Those games are sort of Strategy RPGs, but not like Disgaea even though they're probably the closest you can find to Disgaea on PC (even has some sort of Item World). Later game are very similar but have some problems. I'll talk about KB Crossworlds (which is re-release of Armored Princess) because this is the one you should get: it properly supports widescreen and features more open gameplay.
